Here at the Y, we offer an outstanding variety of programs designed to encourage children to grow to their full potential by exposing them to games, arts and crafts, music, and much more. By learning about themselves and others, they learn vital life skills and avenues of expression that they might have otherwise overlooked. Help your child reach his or her full potential by participating in some of the many classes at the YMCA.
Ages: Rising Kindergartners – 17 years old
At the Y, we believe that all kids deserve the chance to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That’s why every summer our camps open up to create exciting, safe communities where young people can explore the outdoors, discover new experiences, and build self esteem and social and interpersonal skills. Through outdoor activities, arts programs, youth sports, service projects and more, kids in our community are learning about themselves and making new friends at Y Day Camp. And while they’re at it, they discover skills and values they can use for a lifetime; skills like teamwork, responsibility, respect and sharing.

Y – Farm Swim Team
The Y/Farm Summer Swim team participates in the Chapel Hill Summer Swim League. The Farm, a UNC Faculty Staff Recreation Association and the Y are community organizations that believe in encouraging children to swim as a lifelong healthful activity. Our staff is dedicated to creating an environment where swimmers learn the value of striving to be his or her best. We want our swimmers to learn about swimming this summer, but most importantly we want them to leave feeling confident, accomplished and experienced! The Y’s core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility will be integrated into everything that we do!
This is a member only program, so register at the Y or the Farm as a member and then register for the program itself. Practices begin May 22
Registration: April 1, members only

Y-Guides & Y-Princesses
Ages: 1st – 3rd Graders & Dads
The YMCA Y Guides program focuses on strengthening the
father-child relationship through activities that allow fathers
to spend quality one-on-one time with their children. It’s through
these shared experiences that fathers and their children grow closer and form memories that will last a lifetime. That being said, Dads, no gift you ever give your son or daughter will mean as much as the time you spend with him or her. And you’ll soon discover that you treasure those special moments as well.
Y Guides is for boys and girls in rising grades 1 – 3 and their dads. Tribes are composed of seven to nine father/child pairs and meet twice a month. One meeting is in a member’s home and the other is a fun outing in the community. Children receive feather awards and patches for their accomplishments. Upon reaching fourth grade, Little Braves and Princesses may continue in our Trailblazers Program. Tribes are encouraged to meet at least once a quarter and participate in group outings through the year.
The Chapel Hill Tarfoot Nation will be formally joining the Arapahoe Nation Y-Guides program for the 2013-2014 year. This makes us a part of the largest Nation in the US with dedicated staff members and resources. We will be retaining some of our unique Chapel Hill events, so check in with Awesome Possum ( Jess Hanlin) for specific dates and events!
Members: $93 per child (Dads are free!)
Program Participants: $107 per child (Dads are free!)
If you are a new participant: There will be a registration tribe formation event held at 6:00 on Wednesday, September 18th at the Chapel Hill YMCA. At this event, all new folks will get to form new tribes and select a Chief.
If you are a returning participant: You will still need to register for the 2013-2014 program year along with your tribe. New participants will not be added into existing tribes (exceptions will be granted this year for pairs that have already been recruited by you to join). Also, if you have not done so already, you need a Chief!
