construction update

construction update

It’s time to get excited!

We’re excited to announce that renovations to the MLK Jr. Blvd. branch are scheduled to begin the first week of October! Our refreshing facelift will deliver a bright, new lobby space as well as an expanded wellness area with more equipment for our members. You can view new floorplans for the the updated wellness space and lobby here.

We’re busy making preparations to start renovations on October 13. Here’s the latest news:

  • Starting September 22, we changed the rides in/out loop for the after school program to be in the back of the building in order to alleviate as much traffic in the parking lot as possible.
  • Beginning October 6, there will be a modified group wellness schedule during construction.  Some classes will be suspended during the renovations while some will be held in the gym or racquetball courts while the group wellness space is closed.  VIEW or pick up a modified group wellness schedule. The walking track will be closed to walkers during this time as we will be holding our cycle classes on the track.  For your convenience, during renovations, any Chapel Hill YMCA member can use any branch of the YMCA of the Triangle by simply showing your membership card at their check-in area.
  • Childwatch will move next door to Amity United Methodist Church in one of the Sunday School Rooms during renovations.  Hours will change to 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. each day. Due to scheduling restraints at the church, we will not be able to offer Childwatch at all on Thursdays.  Evening hours on other days will remain the same. Check in for Childwatch will be the same, and then you can come over to the Y to workout.
  • Beginning October 13, the front entrance of the building will close for construction.  The temporary entrance of the building will be on the side nearest Amity United Methodist Church. Members and participants will enter through the walking track, which means the walking track will be closed during renovations.
  • Updated renderings of the final renovation will be on display in the branch, so stop by and take a look at what the final product will look like!
