Pool Closure for Maintenance

facility update rounded
Updated May 19, 12:30 p.m.

Due to a shattered window on our pool deck, the pool is currently closed until further notice. In order to make the pool safe, we will have to drain it completely and clean it to confirm all glass has been removed. We then have to refill the pool, bring the temperatures up, and regulate the chemicals.

The Y had originally planned to close the pool for repairs in early June, but since we’ve had to go ahead and close it, we have moved up our maintenance to coincide with this closing.

Please note our updated schedule:

  • The pool at the Chapel Hill branch is closed and will remain closed until Tuesday, May 26.
  • The outdoor lap pool at the YMCA at Meadowmont will be open beginning Monday May 18 from 6 a.m. – 8 p.m.
  • The family pool will also be open 3 – 8 p.m. but the slide will not be open until Saturday, May 23.
  • Although we will have membership staff onsite at the YMCA  at Meadowmont, it will only be fore check-ins. There will be no business desk hours.
  • We will offer a shortened water exercise schedule at the YMCA lap pool:
  • Our Monday, Wednesday and Friday 10 a.m. classes will happen.
  • Our Monday, Wednesday and Friday 11 a.m. classes will happen.
  • All other water exercise classes will be canceled.
  • Swim lessons will operate at the YMCA at Meadowmont. Please be aware and dress for cooler conditions than the indoor pool.

Beginning Monday, May 18 – 25, Chapel Hill YMCA members may swim at the Downtown Durham YMCA during posted lap swim hours by showing a valid YMCA membership card. In addition, the Town of Chapel Hill will allow YMCA swimmers to use the Community Center or Homestead Aquatics Pool for lap swim during their lap swim times. Members will need to show their Y membership cards for entry.

We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your patience. Please check back here or visit our Facebook page for updates.

At the Y, we believe the ability to swim is a critical life skill for everyone. In swim lessons, we use a variety of fun methods to help kids overcome fears, build confidence in the water and develop skills that last a lifetime. Qualified instructors meet swimmers at their own level and celebrate all successes. By educating and partnering with swimmers, we’re determined to prevent drowning in our community.

Summer Camp At The Y

campaign
At the Y, we believe that all kids deserve the chance to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That’s why every summer our camps open up to create exciting, safe communities where young people can explore the outdoors, discover new experiences, and build self esteem and social and interpersonal skills.

Through outdoor activities, arts programs, youth sports, service projects and more, kids in our community are learning about themselves and making new friends at Y Day Camp. And while they’re at it, they discover skills and values they can use for a lifetime; skills like teamwork, responsibility, respect and sharing.
